What a pleasure to have Lisa in the studio to take some maternity photos. I love the beautiful curves of a pregnant belly and it gets me excited to photograph her home birth in just a few more weeks!

It’s always special to photograph an expectant mother, but even moreso when the baby represents what it does here: new hope. Aubree called me to document the joy she and her husband felt at the announcement of their rainbow baby. I think they’re pretty excited about it, wouldn’t you agree? 🙂

You won the mini shoot! How exciting would it be to get that note in your inbox? Well that is exactly what this mama got. I met her at the St. Francis Baby Fair were she signed up to win the mini session I was giving away at the fair.

We were hoping for a fun “snowy” session, however November lacked snow, so instead we got fall leaves.

I was so thankful I didn’t get a call from my client saying she had gone into labor after this shoot! We had such a fun session downtown; this mama and her husband so are nice and so so silly. . .here is a sneak peek.

Can’t wait to get the call this little one is on her way. While I enjoy photographing pregnant moms, births are even more exciting!

This mama has a special place in my heart. Not only did I get to photograph her maternity session but any day now I will photograph her (and my first) home birth. For this session we had no major agenda – mostly it would give us a chance to know each other a little before being together at the birth.

We met at the Guthrie to start in the Amber Room. It is a fun space with all the reflections and the city view. Next we decided to go across the Stone Arch Bridge so we could have the city in the background. This is the most amazing part of the experience for me. Since this mama bikes everywhere, not only did she have her bike with her, but it had a place for a passenger.

I have never ridden on the back of anything. Once I made peace with my guilt at having a very pregnant mom bike me around, it was awesome. The weather was perfect and both of us were happy to have an excuse to be outside.  I kept wondering what people thought as they saw us riding back and forth across the bridge; it must have been a sight! I wish I had had someone snap a picture.

The session ended with a couple of bare tummy shots taken at her house. I knew at the time we had captured some beautiful pictures, however when I got home I was able to see they were even better!

Here I am finally posting a maternity shoot I took in April. What I can say? This mom was (is) GORGEOUS. I still can’t believe she was just three weeks away from giving birth. . . she looked so great.

It is pretty funny how I actually met her. My oldest daughter can be quite persistent to put it mildly. When one of her teachers announced that anyone who got permission from parents could take a crayfish home after they were done with the unit, my daughter got it in her head that she not only needed one but needed one of only two that had eggs. In order to accomplish this, she needed me to come to school with a vessel we could transport this new pet home in. After much begging and pleading, I agreed to met her at school exactly when it ended so she could be one of the firs to her crayfish.

When I got there, I noticed her teacher for this was pregnant. I was shocked to hear how far along she was; she just looked so great. Pregnancy really suited her! That evening I wrote her a note about having a shoot. Within the week we were shooting.

Although it was April, it was COLD. It had snowed the day before and there was a bit of a wind. To their credit, they never complained. They came prepared with more outfits than they needed and lots of accessories. Perfect! We incorporated the best ones and had an awesome time. I just love the connection between them; they were naturals in front of the camera!

Last night I enjoyed a fun session with a mom I have known for several years. I took pregnancy pictures of her with her first; now it was time to take a couple of her pregnant with her second. She also wanted a shot of her and her daughter and then her daughter alone as she is just about to celebrate her second birthday.

I just loved how her daughter’s hair curled in the humidity. In fact I set up for this amazing shot with the sun framing the back of her head and all the curls when I started feeling this pain on my leg. I ignored it at first, but then there was more and more. I looked down only to see hundreds of ants all over my legs; they were stinging me! I had inadvertently kneeled on their nest while setting up to take the picture. Ahhhhh. . . it was a bit traumatic. Luckily mom and child were unscathed. And seeing the pictures, it was all worth it. Here is a little sneak peek:

I can’t believe what I received today in the mail box. Among some other things that I will blog about tomorrow, I received these four marketing items I ordered. Wow – I just LOVE the way they turned out!  They are 8×8 inch metallic prints on black styrene to make them sturdy.

Special thanks to Michele of Pinkletoes4Photographers for the awesome templates.
